caught in the shadow

Hey, haven't posted in a few days. Wednesday I went and saw the Brothers Grimm with Eric, Brandon, and Brandon's brother. For some really strange strange reason, his brother got up at the start of the film and left...and never came back. Actually, from what I hear, for some reason, he wanted to stand and watch the movie from the side of the entrance. Don't ask me why, it was very odd. Anyways, here's what I thought about the film.

Starring Heath Ledger, Matt Damon, and Monica Belucci. Personally I went in with the intentions that it was going to be a fun movie considering it was directed by the same guy who did Mummy Returns 2 and I thought that was pretty entertaining. Brandon kept pointing out that it probably won't be pretty good. I'm a fan of Heath, but have never been much of a fan of Damon and Monica is pretty much just eye candy to me (although she's not a bad actress or anything). If you don't know who the Brothers Grimm are, they were brothers who wrote several of the most famous fairytales you still hear today (Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella,Rumepstiltskin, and more). The movie starts by portraying the brothers as men who vanquish the evils of the land for a profit, but in fact it turns out they are just actually con men. I actually didn't like this portrayal because i sorta had the intentions of seeing a more fantasy oriented movie with interesting effects and characters (although later it does turn more into this, just wasn't at the start). Eventually the story leads them into an adventure that sort of mirrors the Rapunzel story. Details aside, this is what pushes them into their writing career. It indeed was a fun movie and it's sense of humor is probably most recognizable, but I think it just could have been a little better. Not enough effects and stories came out of the story at hand (although you'll notice someone, ie Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel). Heath Ledger did an excellent job playing a sort of dorky, not so timid brother as he communicated a lot of great traits such as ticks and stuttering. I don't think the movie is a highlight and must see, but it's definately worth checking out. If I had to give it a rating, i'd give it three stars out of five. It was good, but could have went further with such an interesting pair of characters, definately a good film for children though.

I'm looking at this review for this video game that's coming out called "Shadow of the Colossus" and man, does it look pretty sweet. Graphics look so nice and eerie. I might have to check it out. Anyways, gonna go hang out with Eric, later.
